I have mixed advice given to me from my doctors, but since I trust my Rheumy with my life and he tells me that it may not be a good idea for me, I don't get them.
I learned something new today though, I had no idea about the Live Vaccines!

I talked with my PCP the other day and this is what he told me. Since I have had no trouble with getting the flu even being around my grandchildren then he doesn't think I should get it. He does want me to get the flu vaccine though and he whispered to us that Walgreens would be cheaper then their office. Love this PCP.
I have never taken the flu vaccine until this year. I was afraid it would make my immune system go crazy. I work in a pharmacy so I get the exposure. I felt maybe it helped build some resistance. We had a outbreak of Whooping Cough last year in NC, so I took that shot while on prednisone, knowing it may not be as effective. I didn't have any problems. So since I am off pednisone and I did ok with the other shot, I decided to take the flu shot this year. I have not shown any problem from it. When my son was young the drs. would not give him the polio live virus, only the shot, beacuse of my immune system. He did take the chicken pox shot, and I was informed I may get chicken pox again. I felt like it was worth the risk. Fortunately I did not, and he got pretty sick with that shot. I think you need to decide for your body what you want to risk and what you don't.
This has been a great and informative thread and I appreciate every post in answer to me. Whatta a great group!
