Thought I would share a story that seemed very apropos for this group. We all have people in our lives that just don't 'get' our disease (mostly everyone). My boyfriend of almost 3 years has been trying to understand it better. I had a defining moment with him the other day that brought me to tears.
He is a Muay Thai fighter. It was one of those bucket list items he wanted to do before he turned 40. I was nursing yet another one of his bruised ribs the other day when he apologized and said 'Baby, that's what you get for being in love with a fighter'.
I told him, I wasn't sure what he was in love with and he said 'I'm in love with a fighter too, but at least I know who my opponent is in the ring. You deal with a different opponent every day.'
He's finally getting it. Love and gentle hugs to all my fellow fighters.
