Starting the testing process

My dr just recently mentioned that she wanted to test me for lupus. So far I've had 2 lab draws ... should get results tomorrow. I know they told me the first one, but I don't remember what it was. Seems like it was on the scale, but on the low side maybe?

Anyway, I was wondering if you could tell me what to expect as far as testing goes? I had someone tell me you're supposed to be fasting for the blood draws, but when I asked they said no it's not necessary.

I was also told this will be a process; it's not like a definitive yes or no on the labs. If I'm on my 2nd test, how many will they typically do??

thanks :)

Depending on how many symptoms you have they most likely will ask you to come in every 3-6 months so they can follow you. As with most lupus patients it took me many years before I ever got a diagnosis.
If you are having symptoms it would be a good idea to see a rheumatologist. They usually do more in depth blood tests. My eldest got a very quick diagnosis. But my youngest daughter is being seen by rheum every 3-4 months because she has had some symptoms and some labs but not enough to be diagnosed. She has had some periods where she has been very sick so they see her and get labs.
As many will tell tell you,
there is not one single test that will prove you have lupus. It is usually several different labs in addition to your symptoms. Good luck with your testing. This is a great place for help and support. Welcome!

I'm just seeing my GP right now ... and I'm not really sure what symptoms in particular she noticed that made her think of testing. I know my sister is also being tested.

How common is the facial rash? I noticed several months ago that my nose was red & just slightly on my cheeks...honestly at first I thought I just got too much sun. But when I didn't ever really go away I thought it was odd. More makeup covered it up, so I didn't think anything of it until my sister told me it could be a possible symptom.
