First of all, does anyone know a site that might have pictures of rashes? It would be a big help for identification. I've got a strange mark that just appeared on my cheek that I'm trying to figure out. Also, I just saw a picture of someone's legs on here - I don't know why they had posted it - but my skin even on my legs was really nice - but it is very blotchy and weird now. I also have a rash that appears repeatedly on the corner of my nose - it gets very infected and spreads unless I hit it with an antifungal, antiviral AND antibiotic. Went to many doctors about it but no one figured it out. It took 3 or 4 doctors to get rid of the last rash under my arms - after 2 months. And, finally, on the topic of rashes.... I had a vaginal yeast infection from age 14 to 23. Could this have been a precursor to all of this? That was a LONG time ago!
Does it look like butterfly wings that is part of lupus you need to see dermatologist.
Hi Lynn,
Yeast infections are well know with Lupus especially candida...here's abit of info about it.
Candida Yeast Infections: These are very common. Check your tongue. If it has a white coating, it is likely caused by candida overgrowth. Or, take the spit test you will read about later. Women may get vaginal yeast infections caused by candida overgrowth. A candida infection can cause a number of autoimmune type symptoms. Frequent sinus infections often are caused by candida.
Regarding your skin and the issues your having.... have you seen a dermo for these Lynn...as it maybe that you have DLE or Tumid Lupus issues besides vasculitis, you do need to see someone and if you've never had the malar rash (Butterfly rash) that may be trying to expose itself.
I'm adding a link to a slide show for Lupus rashes besides other links to help you.

My cheeks already have a light butterfly rash - I'd wondered why my pink cheeks had a stripe missing and now I know. This, though, is more purple and bruise colored and very oval/round. As of yesterday, it got really flaky. Never seen anything like it!

I did google lupus rashes - That's how I found this group. LOL! Someone posted a pic for their doctor of the rash on their face.

Hi Lynn,
Alot of we can have the same rash but t each and everyone of us that certain rash can look different and the butterlfy rash can go flaky also.
Lynn alot of us find info through google but it's what sites you use...i found LWL on page 3 of google also but that 2nd link i added should give you some rough idea besides making the pic's larger but you should be asked to see a dermo. xxx
Is there a special kind of dermatologist for this kind of thing? Does anyone have suggestions in the Long Beach area of California?

Hi Lynn,
It's a pitty you don't live here as my Dermo is smack on the ball and soon tells you what you have and lets you decide on what meds you want to take....let me look for you regarding a dermo and i'll get back to you. xxx

I agree with Terri. Your rash needs to be biopsied by a dermologist. Most dermos know how to biospy for lupus. I would ask them to take two biospies so if one comes up postive the have the second one to run an immuneflurescences test. If you look on my page I have tumid lupus rash and I posted pictures there for other to see what it looks like. I have also posted pictures of my vasculitis as well.
I hope they help you!
Best of luck and let us know what you find out from the dermologist.
Deenie.
Hello Lynn,
I hope the links helped you on finding a Dermo in your area but like Deenie as mentioned biopsies are the for finalizing what skin issues you do have, if a Dermo is not 100% sure with bloods and taking a look at Deenies pic's like she's mentioned may help also besides the links i've added.
Plus i hope your keeping ok?

I just wanted to check in with you to see how it is going and to see if you are doing any better! Did you have any luck with finding a dermatologist?
Let us hear from you!
Deenie
I had the rash for about 7 years and none of the doctors I saw could tell me what it was, not even the dermatologist I finally insisted that they biopsy it and at that point it was diagnosed as lupus. Blood work then confirmed it. Go to google and search lupus rashes and then click images, that should help. Good Luck to you.
I got so busy that I have not been on this site for a while. For now, most of the rashes are gone although the small purplish one on my face is still there and my skin is starting to not look as pretty. I still want to look at all the pictures.
I had my rheumatologist appointment and he said that the Plaquenil is working well on the inflammation but I sure wish it worked better. My hands and feet really hurt as does my back (but I'm scheduled for a 2nd back surgery as soon as my semester ends).
I have not been to the dermatologist. I have one but I really did not like her or think she was any good so I need to try to figure out where to find one that is better with "mystery rashes".
Back to the old grindstone - I have so many tests to grade and I just wasn't feeling well enough the last few days...
Hello Lynn,
Lovely to hear off you and also some of your rashes have eased up abit but i do hope your able to find a good Dermo but plaquenil is an excellent drug but can take upto 6mths to work properly if you've not been on it long.

This all started because the doctors couldn't decide if I needed neck surgery. I went from the orthopedist to the neurosurgeon to the neurologist and they all said "Yep, lots wrong. No idea why". The neurologist sent me to the rheumatologist who said that my arthritic changes were like someone 20 to 30 years older (oh, those poor old folk!) and so he did some testing. As soon as he got the results and before he actually knew what it was, he started me on Plaquenil right at the beginning of the year so I've been on it for about 9 months now. He also doubled my dose of arthritis medicine and now he gave me something for Sjorgen's (spelling?) but I think only because of my having so many issues with dry mouth. Phew! So many medicines now! It turned out that I had all kinds of lupus symptoms that I didn't know were even noteworthy so I hadn't mentioned them. Thank goodness for the internet. As soon as I pointed them out to the doctor, he slid me from unknown autoimmune disease to lupus.

Hello Lynn,
Sorry i'm replying late....Lynn you was started on plaquenil to ease that rash as it's so good for the skin but they really should be able to tell you what it is.
Are you feeling any better though with your arthritis with your meds uppped?
