i cant find a rheumy that will take me as a patient. Ill call and ask if they take my insurance and are taking new patients and they will say yes, but as soon as my obgyn sends my referal and file Im told they arent taking any new patients, this has happened to me five times. Im 32 weeks pregnant just moved to the area and im at a loss of what to do. My pregnancy has been healthy. I take plaquenil 200 mg daily and 10 mg steroid. Im afraid of what to do if i have another flare. I had a really bad one two years ago for four months before i was diagnosed and i just wanted to have a doctor already in place so i can stay on my meds. My high risk obgyn seems annoyed he has to keep refilling my meds bc i dont have a rheumy. But i dont know what i can do about this. Is there another type of doctor i should be seeing. I dont understand why im being lied to , and how things can change from they take new paitients and i can be seen in two weeks into being told the doctor recieved my records and is now no longer taking a new patient.
Sorry to hear you're going through all this added stress while being pregnant. It sucks. I hate to sound tedious or annoying but don't give up looking for a Rheumy. If anything, you might have to travel a little bit further than your local doctors. I also don't see why your high risk obgyn would be getting annoyed, I mean, you do fit in his/her scope of practice technically.lol. But on the bright side, at least you have someone filling your scripts. Have you possibly looked into Internists?
whats the difference between an internest and rheumy ? At this point i dont care who treats me. I dont appreciate being lied to and receiving the run around . I could have accepted an initial " we are full" but to call back a day later and see that they are indeed taking new patients its making me upset. i reall dont have time to travel further, with a special needs teen and a two year old , on top of feeling like poo with a newborn on the way. thirty mintues away is all i really have to give in any travel. Thanks for the suggestion
Hi Querida
How far are you from Emory or Mercisa my spelling is horrible. Try and find a teaching hospital close to you they will have a clinic you should be able to go to. UAB in Birmingham has the Kirklin Clinic.
im two hours away from Emory , ive never heard of the other place. im almost 3 hours south of atlanta.
On friday I received a call back from an internest office. they told me to come in with bottles of prescribed drugs and a list of supplements i take. I told them I have lupus but no organ complications from it. I was debating on sending my medical records to them before hand, but i think i wont .I have my Obgyn appointment tomorrow im thinking of asking for a copy of my medical records, bc arent i allowed to have a copy? I just keep felling like there must be something about them that makes me get turned down. I know my obgyn wasnt very happy during my first visit that i wasnt going to schedule a c - section. My response was until things turn into an emergency I saw no point in being cut and exposing myself to any infection or long recovery. That just having lupu didnt seem to be a good enough reason. Bc two years ago i suspected i had lupus while preggers and was even close to pre eclampia and delivered my daughter with a midwife at home . And being treated with plaquinel and the 10mg of seroids has made this pregnancy easier. My blood pressure is 115/70 and the babies stays at 145- 148 beats. The baby is breech but so were my other two and they turned around two weeks before delivery and i still have six weeks left.. So i still dont see a need for a c -section if the baby is still constantly moving. I dont care much for the practice im always waiting close to two hours past my scheduled appointment time bc he over books.. but he was the only high risk obgyn in this area. but i dont plan on keeping him after i deliver. i just never thought a rheumy could turn me down this way
Some doctors charge for copies. A few have sights where you can go on line and view your records. Let us know how the appointment goes. I have a friend that may know of a rhuemy close to you she works with one in Atlanta I will ask her next week.
I hope you and the family are doing well.
