I am new so not sure if anyone has already asked this question, but for those of you who are taking plaquenil, how long did it take before you noticed the results?
I have only been taking it for around 2 months so am optimistic that around December I should notice a difference as I havent so far.
Just wondered how long it took for others taking this?
Hello!! Welcome to the site! i’ve only been here for a year but there are so many lovable & helpful people here! I think each person is different & will have different results with each medication. In my personal experience I felt better within a couple of days on plaquenil but soon broke out in a horrible rash & had to stop taking it. I then took Imuran for 6 months & didn’t notice any difference at all. I’ve been on Cellcept since February & noticed a difference after 5 or 6 weeks. (I had to get past all of the nausea first.) I would ask your dr though about what to expect regarding your own personal medical situation.
ah thats great thank you I have developed a rash aswell, I am not sure if it is from the medication but it is almost an extension of the lupus rash I have on my chest accept it is now all over my back. I think I will ask my rhuemy next time I see them Thank you x
I'm on 400mg of plaquenil now nd started off ages ago at 200mg and it took nearly 3mths to see any difference it's a great drug for the skin besides SLE.
Regarding your rash plaquenil can cause psoriasis and skin eruption so if i was you instead of seeing a rheumo where their main filed of work is joints and lupus...Dermo's are for the skin involvement.
This link gives you everything you need to know about plaquenil and i hope it helps :)

Hi. Hello! Is the rash very painful or uncomfortable? The one I had was miserable & I called my doctor as soon as I could (which was unfortunately several days since it hit over a 3 day weekend). He had me come in immediately & confirmed that it was from the plaquenil & said it is a very distinct rash that is difficult to misdiagnose. I’ve heard too that plaquenil is the best one to be on for skin rashes, I wish I could have stayed on it. Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!!
