This is a horrifying story about how the medical community can toss patients aside and ultimately do whatever they want. Very sad.
i think this story also points out the very real need that all doctors or any specialist medical doctor or not be involved with working together. Now with email, texting etc, there is not the excuse that doctors do not have time to make numerous phone calls or write a letter to each person involved. Hit of email with a group setting it is done. All of this mess could have been prevented by doctors just speaking to their original treating doctor.
I also think for the many people who been told it is in your head remember one woman's comment, "1 in 10 Americans has a rare disease. There are over 7000 rare diseases. Only a truly arrogant physician could presume to have ruled out all of these conditions before deciding "it's all in your head.".
But it amazes me in this age, how doctors will not communicate with one another about a common patient's problem especially when like in this case and so many others, neither doctor is sure what is going on. Look at all the damage done, both emotionally as well as physically to not just the patient but entire family. All because a doctor let his ego get in the way of just emailing, calling or even just text saying what do you think it might be?

Working as a "team" these days is a big deal. I belong to one of the largest HMOs in the USA. And, I have had to "kick dirt" (as I call it) for the docs to actually talk to each other rather than depending on the computerized charts, e-mail, textiing or voicemail in order to hear me. It's a miracle if they even read the charts.
This all made me cry at the frustration and, yes, anger the family must be feeling. Somehow, there must be redemption for this family and especially the patient. Someone has to take that bunch to court.
Has any action been taken by attorneys that have some compassion for what this family and child are going through? OMG this is a most horrible fate for anyone.
This is atrocious. I have read about such things in the past and after years of fighting all of a sudden the person or persons that started the mess are found to be wrong after they have shattered peoples lives. AND they get no punishment. This family is fighting a corporation and in our society now corporations win everytime. Prayers for this poor family.
