No insurance!

I haven’t had insurance in the past six months. I’m going crazy trying to get it. I applied for medicaid but was denied due to my husbands income. I cannot be added onto his insurance without proof of change( ex getting married, loss of insurance). I have neither. I finally got the chance to call the health insurance marketplace govt help and it was a joke. I’m qualified for insurance that’s in between the prices of 200-400 a month! Cannot afford that. I was also told that I will have to pay soon if I don’t recieve insurance. How is this possible! I don’t have it bc I cannot afford it. How am I supposed to pay a fee? Does anyone have any suggestions. I haven’t seen my levels in forever and I feel horrible I need to see a doctor Asap!

Try the county health dept. also, you should be able to get on your husband’s in the next open enrollment period (which they have once a year.) I know that probably doesn’t help a lot but the open enrollment period may be soon so best to at least ask. Good luck.

Yeah I applied for it during open enrollment in OCT and they said they didn’t get all the paperwork so they never added me. So now that it is January I have to show loss of insurance to be added even though it was their mistake.

From everything I have read your experience with insurance through the new program us typical. In addition to the inflated costs, it is really no more than catastrophic care. The deductibles are very high and out of pocket for doctor visits are sky high not to mention labs.

Have you mentioned your problem to your doctor? Some have a cash rate for patients in your position. The other thought, do you gave any universities nearby that do medical research? I live in a small town with no rheumatoligist. I also experience unusual neurological symptoms during flares. The two combined put me with a lupus-research rheumatologist. I know both he and his partner have special cash rates as well as research program to defray blood work and help with other costs.

Good luck!!

Concerning not being able to get proof of your ex-husbands marriage. That is public knowledge. If you know where they were married you can search the site for their certificate by last names. Then just print it out. I hope you can get insurance soon, I went through this while waiting for my LTD to be approved.

My Rheumy has charged me a rate for office visits for several years, since I have no insurance. He is very reasonable with the copay I pay him when I see him.

SInce you sound mainly worried about your levels...why not either call your PCP doctor and ask them to order urine and basic blood work. You do not need to see your dr to have them order it. Saves a office visit and help calm your anxiety.

I also have seen most doctors lower their office visit rates to those without insurance greatly. For example, if he charged my insurance 110 per visit, he only charged a student i was helping, $80 plus he gave us the meds.

BUT if you are mainly worried about your levels, your primary care doctor can even order a urine and basic blood panel without a office visit. This should indicate if anything is going on that might be serious.

I am bit confused though why you did not sign up for your husbands since enrollment is in the fall and you been without insurance for over 6 months. Maybe it is different...but as to federal being between $200-400..that is cheap! COBRA here in CA was $600 per month a few years ago so might be higher and when it stops, insurance companies have no caps so if you are sick....they keep raising monthly premiums until the person cannot afford them. I know people who were paying over $1000 per month! Took most of all the income, some lost their homes to keep their health insurance. So thankful that finally we have cap on costs of monthly insurance premiums !!

Oh a long shot...but might help or know where or how to get help is your state dept of manage health. They might either know of non profit that might assist you or loop hole to help you get on your husband's insurance.

I am sorry about your situation but hopefully you can at least get some lab work done and help stop your worrying!!
