I was diagnosed with lupus almost 4 years ago and it changed my life dramatically. Originally , because I presented so badly, my doctors thought I’d be a stage 4 but luckily the biopsy results proved I was only stage 3. Since being diagnosed I’ve also gained a lot of weight and ive lost a lot of my friends. Is there anyone out there going through the same thing ?
Hi Samantha,
I don't have nephritis but I can relate in other ways. I am not able to work or drive so because of this at times I feel very isolated. I was a very social person and I have lost a great deal of that. I also have gained a lot of weight, luckily I was able to lose some of it but of course I would still like to lose more. I am sure there are people on this site that will be able to talk with you about the nephritis.
Hi. I was diagnosed with Lupus Nephritis stage 3 and a small stage 5. I gained a lot of weight because I was on 80mg of steriods. I also went on intensive treatment of chemo to help treat it. My kidneys are back functioning not at 100% but better. I have also developed fibro, RA, chronic fatigue among other things.
Hi , I also underwent an intensive chemo treatment and was also put on a very high dosage of prednisone, unfortunately from what my doctors have told me, there is a possibility that my kidneys could never go back to being 100%. And weirdly enough I only recently started gaining weight, and I've been off prednisone for almost 2 years now, I also haven't had any changes in my diet or anything.

Hi , I myself was a very social person before being diagnosed, I had a lot of friends but, when my lupus got under control and I came home from the hospital and went back to school, it didn't seem like my friends viewed me as the same person I was before getting diagnosed. Many of them just started falling out with me despite my attempts.

Samantha,
Some people do not know how to deal with people when they become sick so the easiest thing for them is to just avoid the whole issue (sometimes person too). Remember this is not your problem it is theirs. I am sorry that this has happened to you. The friendships that end up surviving or that we make during this time are truly the best ones and the ones that will go the distance. All we can do is keep trying, and remember you have a ton of friends here for you anytime you need us.
I was diagnosed with lupus nephritis about 5 years ago and it changed my life dramatically. I was an engineering intern and volunteered on disaster relief projects. I have lost all of my friends some I had to let go because their attitudes were either toxic or condescending. I have lost the respect of my siblings and now i feel I'm relegated to a position in the family where I'm the one always sick, needing attention, not able to financially care for herself. For me that's worse than lupus.
Lupus is a cruel disease. . . .
