Itchy skin!

I am not currently on any medication and my skin is very itchy all over. Does anyone else have this problem?

Yes! I have very dry skin. I am using “Eucerin skin calming daily moisturizing cream.” it says it has natural oatmeal and prevents dry itchy skin and it is fragrance free. I.use it after showers, and I put it on again at night. It comes in the store brand at a lesser price. I have really dry skin anyway. I do not shower every day because of it. I don’t know whether lupus makes it worse, but pain meds make it worse. Dry weather doesn’t help. Hope this helps!

There are many invisible rashes that occur in us Lupus patients. All rashes start inside, under the skin and not all show up on the surface of our skin.
I take Benadryl to stop the itching as I can scratch until I bleed. I also use a topical anti-itch cream.
Another good idea is to take luke-warm showers as hot water makes all rashes, invisible or not, much worse.
Eucerin and Nivea are 2 of the best lotions or creams to use as they most closely match the pH level of our skin.
Sorry you’re itching and hope you get it under control soon. Hugs to you!

Hi yes I do have very severe dry skin it’s just falls of me I’ve used every cream and nothing helps my doc put me on antihistamines as these calm it down cause ounce I scratch I can’t stop then it bleeds have your thyroid checked as I’ve got hypothyroidism and hyperparathyroidism this causes dry skin as well and drink plenty of fluids you could me a little dehydrated even if you don’t take meds I don’t take them just pain meds take care I hope you get it sorted xxxx

Yes Sometimes I put ice packs on areas to calm it down

Yes it wakes me up at night sometimes. I got this morning with a blazing itch on my foot and get it often on my arms and legs. I use a lot of lotion on my legs and arms especially. Not sure if it’s from meds or dryness.

Hi… yes I have itchy skin and no rashes no dry skin… And happens from head to toe. I was told it was nerve endings. You can take a nerve block tO help but not guaranteed to work. I never tried it. . Because of that. But sometimes I feel like ripping my skin off… just a question to you get bad lupus headaches? Or very bad migraine?

Btw I am on plaquenil now but had the “itchy skin” before I was every on medications. . If anything that particular medicine made the itching worse but not the cause

My migraines are unbearable. No medication makes them go away either. The pressure i get in my head when i get a headache is indescribable.

yes ... my doctor gives me antihisthamine and it helps

I have really dry skin too, and discoid lupus, years ago a derm who felt sorry for me I was a single mom and poor told me to buy crisco shortening it works just as well as eucerin he was right it works great, but you have to be extremely careful as this is greasier than eucerin never apply it while standing in a tub or shower, I apply it to damp skin then pat dry it works great, I can afford the more expensive eucerin now, but I still use the crisco. I know about those headaches too, I've not found anything to help relieve them I get severe pain in one spot on the side of my head I wonder if its related to the vasculitis.

I also get itchy skin. Mine seems to come on right before my period. I take benedryl and that seems to help but makes me really sleepy so I take it before bed. I also get headaches a lot. Some can go into migranes and then I'm down for the day. Others are manageable and I can work but just feel Blah! I only take plaquenil. But I don't think it's from that.

I too think it is from Lupus and the nerve endings are activateing.

My skin is itchy and I take medication with the side affect of growing a lot of hair on my face and arms which does not make it better. I had a wax job done and I broke out into a rash on my face. My Doctor told me to use dove soap to clean my face and Neutrogena for moisture. If I break out into a rash and continue to itch I'm going to see a Dermatologist I still itch by the way.

try the eucerin calming lotion or good old fashioned crisco shortening both work really well, I can't have my brows or lip waxed anymore the last time not only did the skin tear but i got a pretty nasty rash that was back in may I still have a patch just above my upper lip. good luck to you, I had the itching and dry skin with or without meds so I'd say its a combination of lupus and aging.
