I have been keeping a journal of my symptoms, pain, & food. I started this diary because all the doctors want to do, is add medicines. Add a pain medicine, add a pill for stomach problems. Add a pain medicine, add a blood pressure pill. ect.... All these pills, and I am still in pain. When you ask doctors about exercise, food, & vitamins, they have no advise. I did have a doctor tell me to do the Medifast Diet. Not a good diet for me. Big flare up, not right away took about a month. There are not enough studies on food. The only one they will tell you to take is Vitamin D. I found one very strong conclusion, if you have pain stay away from sugar.... Sugar is hidden in so many foods too. They call it High Fructose Corn Syrup. They put in can green beans even. On my worse days I noticed that it was days. I ate fast food, sugar, packaged food. Fast Food is not real food, they add so many lab produced additives. I am trying to change my bad eating habits, but not there yet. My goal right now is to eat a yogurt, a fruit, a vegetable, and nuts, everyday. I also am trying to drink more water to help with muscle pain. My ultimate goal is to do the Dr. Wells diet. http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/PAG00361/anti-inflammatory-food-pyramid.html
My rhuemy is big on fresh fruits and vegatables. I am on vit d and one for hair and nails. In a class we had i was told if we use can vegatables to wash them off at least 3 times before cooking them. I try and buy frozen food when i can not get fresh. I cut back on caffine and that has helped with the weight and fatigue.
I never thought about washing them. That is a great idea. I love french style green beans in a can. Thanks
Last winter I was in a flare and I did all sorts of research on the anti-inflammatory diet. I don't follow it to a T, but I do make much more of an effort to watch the sugar and have lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains. I also started taking a fish oil supplement yesterday because I know I don't get enough fish in a week, especially in the winter. Through that website, I signed up for his emails and once a week you get an email with a food featured in it about the benefits of that food, what it can help with, and sometimes recipes for it. When I started making my food swap outs last winter, I noticed a bit of a difference. It's so hard because I've always had a sweet tooth and sometimes you just need some chocolate to make you feel better! haha.
I love chocolate too. I read that dark chocolate has antiflammatory factors and chocolate with nuts in them counter balance each other. This has been a food switch for me. I used to decorate cakes for a hobby, before I got sick. I have to say I have sweet teeth… lol
I know sugar does the same for me, but some days I can’t stay away.
