Can you help me with this ANA number?

I talked to my dr's office today, and asked her what the actual number for my ANA titer was ... she said it was 7.2

I tried googling this to see what I could find out, but all the numbers I see are in a 1:0 format, so I'm wondering if I misunderstood her??

Yabby, can't give you the answer on your ANA test, however, ALWAYS leave your Drs office with an actual copy of any blood work or other test. If you have the test in hand it is easier to google and you will actually see how out of the normal range your numbers are and what it means. If you don't go in to your Drs office, call and insist that your results are emailed or faxed to you. You are entitled to this always and you should compile a folder of your own to refer to. Good luck.

Good morning Yabby,

I agree with Murphy, always ask for a copy of your bloodwork results. Or if your healthcare organization had a porthole that you can go on and view your labs and print them out, do that. At any rate I go to Mayo Clinic and by their ANA levels it is

<or 1.0 units NEGATIVE

1.1-2.9 units WEAKLY POSITIVE

3.0-5.9 units POSITIVE

or = 6.0 STRONG POSITIVE

Again every lab is different. I would call your doctor and ask him or her to discuss your results with you so you know exactly what they mean. Hope this helps.

Cheryl

I'm so confused too because my lab work says ANA titer result 1:320 positive.

I'll ask my Dr. when I go on the 2nd of Oct and let you all know but if anyone has any insight until then, please share. Thanks!

Kaycie here is some information from John Hopkins regarding ANA bloodwork and ANA Titers

hmmm, I wonder if maybe they are measuring differently?? Because 7.2 would indicate a strong positive, and from the way they talked to me it sounded more moderate. I believe she called it an "intermediate" number.

Yabby I think so too. There is the ANA titer and pattern that a lot of physicians order. Pattern tells you which disease you have or soemthing like that.

well, she told me the ANA titer number was 7.2 .... so I'm just confused. But, I will be going by their office tomorrow for my son so I'll grab a copy of the labs while I'm in there.
