hey everyone in my lupus family, a bit of my cane, walker uses. I started when discharged from hospital 4 years ago with a walker (the metal kind ). it worked for awhile then now 3 years later im in a power chair that my ins. paid 100 percent. I went through hell and high water to get it. It took a year, now to find out my vechicle doesnt carry the weight of a lift. So now ive got the chair but am bound to house and mailbox. Does anyone have suggestions how i can proceed? love vegasgirl.xxxxxxxxxxxooooooooooooooooo

Mine folded and fit in my Camry trunk.

Latina, mine does that too, but I can't lift it in. How do you lift yours?

I bought a lift that had a remote control. Also, there were always people around me that helped. I used it the last year I taught. I wouldn't have made it otherwise. I stopped teaching when I showed up with an oxygen tank to school. Principal told me, with tears in her eyes, that she had battled to have to tell me I had to retire because she didn't want one of her best teachers to go. MAy time was up.

hello latina, are you talking about a scooter?, or a power chair? yes there are scooters that come apart but im unable to lift anything. Could you be referring to a walker? which do fold very easily. Also im now in a power chair and it holds 300 lbs. but i have a mazda protoge 2003 that wheel chair lift company says wont hold the weight. I cant afford a new car. please have you any suggestions VEGASGIRL HAVE A BLESSED DAY.

Vegas girl, what a coincidence. I live with my 81 year old mother too, she also has lupus.

Wait a minute Sheila, you and Tez know where there are spare body parts? I was told there were none to be had for worn out cases like me. Hmmmmmph. Definitely pouting.

((HUGS TEZ)) Yeah, lets have a walker race to the place they keep the extra body parts!! LOL

Ohsoperplexed...they are learning how to print out new organs on a 3D printer! From our own cells so they won't be rejected! Lots of miracles on the horizon.

Although I had a prescription from my dr., my insurance did not want to pay for it, so I got a scooter. A walker I have. I'm sure I could try to get a power chair now that I have Medicare, but I want to try to walk until I do drag my body, not just my legs as I do now.

My car could not handle a power chair, but it can handle a scooter. They are lighter weight.

I fought the idea, but am very happy to own my cane. I spent a long time trying different handles and checking out styles. I finally found one that was the right hight, super light (bamboo), very strong, and a comfortable handle. It seems weird to watch a young woman walking like an old person, but the cane helps the walking. Not to mention that falling is not fun. I say try a cane, but talk to your doctor about your meds. You may need adjustment to help with getting those cane days down.

Hugs,
Mindy

Sheila, so how many limbs does having new organs printed out cost us? I might be willing to give up the bum foot that has swollen joints hindering my ability to walk. Thanks fro the much needed laugh!

Mindy thanks for sharing about your cane. I bought an adjustable one, and had to make it the shortest length. It's a lovely girly pink color, with a derby handle - much easier to hold onto than others, especially with weak hands and arms. If I got the foot checked they would have me on bed rest and crutches. sorry, but chubby chics don't do well with crutches. Been eyeballing the electric scooters like you see on t.v. but not in the budget.

Not on any lupus meds right now. and all the others are needed. I'm not happy abou t the handful for breakfast. My husband helped me go through our insurance doctor in network list tonight, and we may have found a good internal medicine doctor who also does rheumatology. YAY! Let's hope he passes the interview.
