When I am anxious and in pain, sleep takes more work! But I know the cost of not taking care of the problem. Good sleep takes work but it is worth the effort for me!

Thanks for this link Ann.... I'm really having a tough time with sleep, I can fall asleep but not stay asleep.

Hello, yes it takes work to have a good nite of sleep, and stay sleep !!! It is not fair for us that are “living with Lupus” at all. But we make the best of this somehow,(how I don’t know ) . Some ties am up til the sun come reading or writing in my journal , wishing that I could or would fall asleep like others in my home. One day all this will be a thing of the past…Beverly L.

Hi Ann A, yes that sound good what your grandson says, we have to help ourselves when it comes down to getting the rest we need and falling asleep is hard at times, yes putting in the work is hard ,but we have to make the adjustments for our health!!! Don’t think about it , just do it…Beverly L.

Lol, this is so true  i,'m chuckling at myself cause I know all to well when my worry wort brain won’t shut up I don’t practise sleep hygiene and that makes my symptoms worse.

When there is tension in the house and yelling and screaming, I cannot sleep. But when its gone and I have comeple silence sleep is easier. Sometimes I fall asleep quick at nite and sleep around 5 hours get up watch tv or read and go back to sleep again. Crazy, thanks for the info and for caring.

Hi, yes it is better for us when it is quite !! The noise drives me crazy also, my nerves just can’t handle it at all. I can’t stay calm around the noise and to many people talking all at one time , so I stay away from it as much as I can. A not happy for doing this but I have to !! Staying away from the noise as much as possible also help me to sleep better and to relax …just try not to stress…Beverly L.

Yes, it is hard for us , when we get into a new pattern , changes do happen all the time with us, and have to start all over again. But we can’t give up…Beverly L.

I think when we are young and healthy - okay I was never that healthy - we don’t even know that there is such a concept as “sleep hygiene.” Then once we are introduced to the concept we can have difficulty doing the work often enough that it becomes a habit - and habits are behaviors that we do not have to think about. Then once we find a pattern of sleep hygiene that works for us and practice it until it becomes a habit - boom our unpredictable health status changes and we have to start all over again. That happened to me when the ulcer put me down in December. Being stuck in the bed for weeks changes the habit pattern in which I do nothing in the bed but sleep. So, now I am trying to start creating a habit pattern in which I practice good sleep hygiene. What did my old friend Yogi Berra say? “This is like deja vu all over again.”

I know that I have got to suck it up and do it … but sometimes I need to whine before I can pull myself up again. Whine whine whine whine whine

I am a light sleeper, and I find white noise to be very helpful for blocking out other random noises so I can sleep. In the old days, I used a loud fan or humidifier. These days, I have white noise apps on an iPod touch, which I hook up to a cheap speaker at night on my night stand. I also have one on my android phone, but I like the iPod app better.

I find I'm more alert, in the moment, & can function better if I get a good nights sleep...to be at my best I need about 9-10 hours
