Recently I've noticed hair loss. It's mostly been diffuse thinning, but there's a bald spot on the outside of my leg not far above the ankle and it's on both sides (worse on the right). There's also been noticeable thinning on the inside of my lower right leg. The hair on my head has only has some diffuse thinning and my rheumatologist just blew it off as androgenic hair loss... does't seem to follow the typical forehead/crown thinning so often seen with hair loss caused by testosterone though.
Anyway, has anyone else had bald patches or hair loss on parts of the body that aren't the head?
Hi,
I have that on both legs, the hair is still in the front of the legs, but the outside, and back are completely gone. This coincides with the nerve damage in my legs thought to be from SLE Lupus.
I do have ginning on my head too.
Androgenic hair loss is caused from high testosterone levels. Testosterone is converted into DHT which hair follicles are sensitive to and the DHT essentially stops the hair follicle from producing any new hair growth. I would have your testosterone levels checked before leting the rhuemy from saying it’s androgenic hair loss.
I have my testosterone levels checked regularly, so I know that they aren't high. I'll make sure to bring that up to my rheum.
