Plaquenil - the fast and the furious!

Thanks everyone.

I have always drunk a lot of water - at least 1.5 litres every day. Have added raisins, cabbage, spinach and generally, a whole lot more veggies to my daily intake, as well as 1-2 slices of whole grain bread.

I have stabilised enough to go from 1 to 2 Plaquenil per day. I would like to genuinely thank everyone for the impute. While I am still somewhat fluctuating between running to the loo and begging to go to the loo, my stomach is obviously a lot more stable than what it was when I asked my initial question. Neither constipation nor diarrhea is extreme nor as painful to endure. I think we have a success!!!

Hi!, why do your doc have you taking them at bed time? My doc , told me to take mine in the morning and if I forget to take it that day-1st thing the next morning take it ! It has reallyyyyyy helped me! But as the saing say, what may work for me , Might not work for you !!! And nothing beat a failure but a try! So you also have to feel your way through with your meds/times. Just a little advice…Beverly L.

I take twice a day now. With Breakfast and with dinner. Initially was only dinner, don't think I would have coped taking at breakfast in the beginning as I would have spent all day in loo!!!! But stabilising now which is GREAT. Cheers

Hi noahandme

know what you mean about spending the day in the " loo". You have to be creative and take the pills when you are going to be near the bathroom. I've been on plaquenil since dec I take 3 per day. I told my rheumy that the bathroom time is better than the mouth sores Trade off I guess

I have taken Plaquenil 2xs a day for about 5 years. It has never caused me any stomach problems at all. It has helped my Lupus symptoms and plan to continue taking it.

I had a lot of constipation, and nausia when I was on Plaquenil. About a month into it I broke out in full body hives, apparently I was allergic to it and my body was reacting crazy because of it (as if it doesn't act crazy enough)

My first Rhemy told me there was no other treatment.

I since left that doc and found a MUCH more educated one, and he moved me over to Quinaqrine. There is a lot of mixed reactions to the drug from people, but for me it helps. I don't have as many of the stomach issues that I had before and the symptoms have gotten less and less the longer i take it.

Hope things start getting better soon.

The Dr. has started me on the plaquenil again after 3 years......I too have started with the 1/8 dose and no problems so far.....I only started it 5 days ago............I have a question for you artchick......how often did you increase the dose and did you alternate twice a day or just increase the once a day dose...........just curious.....that's for any and all info.........

I started with an 1/8 of the dose along with nexium everyday and slowly bumped it up. Not a problem. Now I can take it without any nexium and no side effects.

Hi

I had that problem for 6 months. I told the dr it was better than the mouth sores. Recently I had a sigmoidoscopy and the gasto dr put me on probiotic (LSV #3 (over the counter) and I haven't had diahrea since. It's been a month now. Maybe you could try that. Idon't think it would hurt.

Good Luck

Oh man. I’m suppose to be starting this medicine soon and am a luttle worried now. I swear by probiotics but do have horrible stomach issues still.

I get terrible pains after I eat so tge doctor put me on sucralfate, bentyl prilosec and pepcid. It seems to be helping a lot. I will continue to take probiotics because they are a wonderful help.

I hope that you straighten out soon dear. Let us know if it helps. Stay blessed.

Hi smoky mtn snowflake I told you the wrong name Its VSL#3

I had to order the VSL#3

at Sams It is an over-the-counter med but it needs to be refrigeated so its a special order. It was 43.45 for a 2 month supply.

I hope it works for you.

I had a biopsy and have active colitis.

Hugs

Cindy
