Hi all! I have a question. About 2 months ago I asked for Accomodations for building evacuation at work. I’m on the 8 th floor and cannot do steps yet due to the lupus, Sjogren’s and RA. I was told to either wait on my landing or go down in my rear end. In case of tornadoes, since I’m in OK, to ride the elevator down before the storm gets there. Last Friday the fire alarm went off. My boss waited with me until we saw the fire trucks coming with full lights and siren. By that time the alarm had been going for greater than 10 min. I felt I had no choice but to head down. Once at the bottom I was in horrible pain, legs wouldn’t hold my weight. I had to have help getting out to my car. Since then I’ve been back to walking with a walker until today. I received a kenelog injection yesterday that helped.
To make matters worse, I have to finish my Master’s thesis by the beginning of the Summer semester which is just six weeks away. Now I’m stuck at home trying to recover. I’m so angry I don’t know where to start. Please if anyone has some guidance I would REALLY appreciate it.
My husband is a security expert and here is what he had to say! If it is bad weather yes go down in the elevator early on! The stairway landing is protected from fire and you should work it out with the security in the Buliding that when the fire department or EMS personnel arrive they need to go to the stairway landing and carry you down! Also remind every employee that is evacuating and walking past you to have the fire department or EMS personnel come up to get you!
Please make sure you have these plans in place with security and the fire department and or EMS Personnel prior to any emergency!
