I went to my PC to ge he clearance for my surgery scheduled for Monday. When she read my lab work she notice my patassium was low and my EKG was abnormal. She also was not happy with my blood pressure being so low 92/68. I have to have a stress eko before she clear me for surgery. She keep asking me do I have chest pains. Well I have but I just assume it was weird but nothing to be concerned about. I am praying nothing is seriously wrong.
Low potassium could be the cause of your abnormal EKG. Potassium is essential for cardiac functioning. Too low, or too high of potassium can cause abnormal EKG readings. Praying your doctor gets you back into normal limits.
Thank you, I passed my stress test give meds by IV to get my heart racing.

If your not a diabetic, try drinking some OJ, eat a couple bananas, and salt your food.
I have low B.P. and keep a small salt shaker by me, or salt packets in my purse, when I get light headed or weak I put some salt in my mouth. Works pretty well and faster and and safer than medicines. And the bananas do raise your potassium but you can get supplements if it is constantly too low just for a banana. I have had a strange EKG for 10 years or more. It all depends what the problem is, whether it's dangerous or not. Echocardiogram will show more. What type of surgery do you need? if you'd rather not say, no problem. Glad your Dr. is being so careful!! I hope your heart is fine. Maybe just the potassium is what threw out the EKG and caused the chest pain.
Hopefully potassium and salt will be the only treatment you need. I just went through the heart workup for the past 3 months. Here in Canada it takes 4-6 months to get tests that would take 1 day in the USA. I lived in the USA for 20 years. I miss the prompt and quality care, but not the bills. I crave salty stuff constantly because of low BP, low thyroid, low adrenal. Do you crave salty stuff? Pickles are salty and if you have high blood SUGAR, a pickle or a swig of pickle juice or oil and 2 tbsp of vinegar on a salad will bring down your blood sugar faster and safer than fast acting insulin, and solves the salt craving too. Keep us posted. When is your echocardiogram?
Pray for your healing. Be encouraged.
Ok I tried to reply so if u see it I wasn’t finished… I will get back to you later tonight. What was +k ? And what did the EKG say, abnormal can mean a lot and in what lead was it in
Hello , hope that everything goes well for you!!! Sometimes the things that we go through with Living with LUPUS , makes (me) us want to give up ,but of course we don't -smile . Am getting tired of one thing after another , it seems like LUPUS say, "Well am going to take them through some changes and don't care what they have planned , or if we really want to go through the motion of change after change (problems and tests and not forgetting the doctors with the blood tests all the time). I don't want this LUPUS stuff anymore , it takes up to much TIME from other things !!! Ex-specially when you think that you are doing good. Once again , hope that everything works out for you , take care.... Beverly L.
Good evening, Hope your in better health. OK, I was on my Iphone trying to respond.. just havent got the hang of it yet.... Anyway, in no way is this advice, just general information ( I am an RN). K+ is a fickle electrolyte. If is low, some people get tired, muscle fatigue, and yes abnormal ekg's. As a general rule healthcare professionals worry if it under 3.0 or over 5.0. Normal is 3.5-4.5 depending on the lab doing the test. So next we whould look at your Na+ levels (sodium). If they are normal.. and if it were me, I would eat baked potatoes w/broccoli (lots of K) and keep my water drinking to 1.5 liters a day. The nuc stress are great- they will get a good look at the function of your heart. AS far you bp being low- These is what us critical nurses look at, may be low, but you are perfusing your vital organs. Take the systolic + diastolic then divide by 2, if it's over 65 your good! Lots of people have low heart rates- if you excersice, if you meditate, eating healthy, low stress levels. If they didn't mention the word "block" on EKG, just abnormal, sounds like placement of the leads or the low K+, however stress could cause an ekg to be abnormal. DID I loose you yet--- So sorry!!! Also magnesium can cause some issues too>>> good luck to you and I know it will all be fine and you will have an excellent surgery> Best of health to you < Prayers
That sounds frustrating and frightening all at the same time. I hope you get some answers quickly and I hope it’s nothing serious. Good luck!!!
