my brother is receiving a kidney today, he has 2 prior that didn't last very long, he has been on dialysis for the past 8 years.....this is the best day I've had in many years! my blessings are with the family whom have lost a love one.

That’s great! I hope he recovers quickly. Many thanks to those that make the decision to become organ donors and their families. It must be somewhat comforting to the families of the deceased to know that their loved one is living on in someone else. Makes me wonder if someone with lupus can become an organ donor.

I have always been a donor until I received the diagnosis of Lupus, my rheumy said I was no longer able to donate....I have many other auto immune diseases also so maybe with the combination. they wouldn't let me be tested for my brother.

I too am a donor. I’m going to ask my rheumie at my next visit if that’s still okay. I wouldn’t want to (unintentionally) make someone else sick with any of my organs. I could understand why you couldn’t donate one of your own kidneys to your brother. We are at risk for kidney disease ourselves.
